Planet Power in the Cleaning Product Supply Chain

Earth Day is an important time to hold ourselves accountable on how we’re going to protect the planet. For the cleaning product supply chain, much of this effort is focused on how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. One of the main ways to do this is by tapping renewable energy sources. 45% of all members of the American Cleaning Institute have committed to increasing their use of renewable energy. Here are just a few of their stories:

The Clorox Company

Clorox has achieved its goal of 100% renewable electricity for its operations in the U.S. and Canada. This was in large part to virtual power purchase agreements supporting the expansion of renewable energy infrastructure.

Colgate-Palmolive

Colgate is committed to its Renewable Energy Master Plan, which helps support the target of using 100% renewable electricity in its global operations by 2030.

Ecolab

Ecolab uses power sourced from a wind farm in Finland to cover 100% of the electricity used in their European sites. They are also in the process of converting all of their North American sales and service fleets to electric vehicles.

Henkel

Henkel entered into a large-scale VPPA with energy provider Ørsted to create a new wind farm in Texas, which will cover 100% of Henkel’s electricity consumption in the U.S.

IFF

IFF is focused on renewable energy as a way to achieve net-zero by 2040. Their research site in New Jersey is fully powered by solar energy and all their manufacturing plants will be using electricity from renewable sources by 2030.

Novonesis

Novonesis is committed to using 100% renewable electricity by the end of this year and are on track to meet this goal. Between 2018 and 2022, they were also able to reduce absolute emissions by 63% while increasing revenue.

Procter & Gamble

Procter and Gamble purchases >99% renewable electricity globally. In the U.S., much of this is due to a large wind farm in Texas and an onsite combined heat and power biomass facility Georgia.

Reckitt

Reckitt has committed to power its operations with 100% renewable electricity by 2030 and currently uses 93% renewable electricity as well as reducing total energy use per tonne of production by 3% compared to 2015.
