Pet Hair Cleaning Hacks

Pet owners know that while our four-legged friends bring joy and companionship into our lives, they also leave their fur all over our homes. Dealing with pet hair can be a constant battle but we have some clever pet hair removal hacks to help keep your home clean and pet hair to a minimum.

The Trusty Lint Roller

Lint rollers are a pet owner’s best friend. They are affordable, convenient, and incredibly effective at removing pet hair from clothing, furniture, and even car seats. Keep one in your car, one in your purse, and a few strategically placed around your home for quick touch-ups.

Use Fabric Softener in Laundry

Fabric softener can help loosen pet hair from the fibers of your clothes and reduce the static electricity that attracts hair. There are even dryer sheets made specifically for pet owners to reduce pet hair on clothes. This is a great way to start out ahead of the game and reduce the need for the lint roller.

Damp Microfiber Cloths

Microfiber cloths have an electrostatic charge that attracts pet hair. Simply wipe down your furniture or surfaces with a microfiber cloth to pick up pet hair. Slightly dampen the cloth for even better results, as that will cause the hair to clump for easier removal.

Dust Wipes

These premoistened wipes can make keeping pet hair under control a breeze. Use an extra-large size to quickly clean hardwood and tile floors, starting at the edge of the room and working toward the middle. Use a regular size for stairs, starting at the top and working your way down. Then, you can just dispose of the wipe, which will help remove the pet hair from your space entirely, instead of redistributing it.

Vacuum Regularly

Invest in a high-quality vacuum cleaner designed specifically for pet hair removal. These vacuums come with powerful suction and specialized attachments to capture pet hair embedded in carpets and upholstery. Make it a habit to vacuum your home regularly to prevent hair buildup.

Wash Pet Bedding and Toys

Pet bedding and toys are magnets for pet hair. Wash these items frequently in hot water to remove hair and allergens. If the bedding is machine washable, add a tennis ball or two to the dryer to help fluff it up and shake out any remaining hair.

Pet hair doesn’t have to be a constant source of frustration if you have a plan for managing it. Regular grooming can help reduce the pet hair brought into your home and use these cleaning tips to remove the rest.
