It’s Time to Get Crafty

Beyond making personal mementos and gifts, crafting is known to reduce stress and even help kids develop fine motor skills. Since March is National Craft Month, why not pick a rainy day and have some family fun making one of these crafts using things you probably have around the house (or can find outside) anyway!

Of course, we’re going to provide you with some pointers for avoiding messes and cleaning up!

  • Choose washable paints and markers and water-based craft glue. If any paint gets on your clothes, simply pretreat the stain with a prewash stain remover and toss the soiled items in the wash.
  • Using finger paints? A plastic tablecloth or large sheet of paper should help keep the table clean.
  • Inevitably, some marker will get somewhere it’s not supposed to be. For regular felt-tip markers, rinse the stain with cold water until no more color is being removed. Then place it on some clean paper towels and sponge it with rubbing alcohol. Launder it in the hottest water that’s safe for the fabric.
  • Glitter? Our favorite! Depending on where it lands, the two best ways of capturing errant sparkles are vacuuming and blotting them up using the sticky side of masking tape.
