Cleaning Guide for Your First Pet

Bringing a pet into your home for the first time is a joyous occasion filled with excitement and anticipation. However, it also comes with new responsibilities, like maintaining a clean and healthy environment for both you and your pet. For World Animal Day, we’re sharing some essential tips to help keep you and your pet happy and healthy.

1. Pet-Proof Your Home

Just like babyproofing, pet-proofing your home is crucial. Store cleaning supplies, batteries, and medicines out of reach. Secure any loose wires and take a moment to declutter and move breakable or valuable pieces up and away. This not only ensures your pet’s safety but will also make cleaning easier.

2. Create a Cleaning Schedule

Consistency is key. Establish a regular cleaning schedule to manage pet hair as well as clean pet toys and bowls. Daily tasks might include sweeping and vacuuming, while weekly ones could involve laundering pet bedding.

3. Invest in Quality Cleaning Products

Look for enzymatic cleaners that break down pet stains and odors effectively. You may also want to look for the EPA Safer Choice certification for products that are safer for pets.

4. Groom Your Pet Regularly

Regular grooming not only keeps your pet clean but also reduces the amount of hair and dander in your home. Brush them frequently to minimize shedding and bathe them as per your vet’s recommendations.

6. Clean Up Accidents Immediately

Accidents happen, especially with young pets. Clean up any messes immediately to prevent stains and odors from setting in. Use an enzymatic cleaner to thoroughly remove any traces and discourage repeat incidents.
