The 4-1-1 on Wipes

Cleaning wipes are convenient and effective tools for keeping your home and workplace clean and germ-free. Nearly all of us have used a wipe of some sort, whether to kill germs or keep us clean on-the-go. But not all wipes are created equal. There are different types of wipes for different purposes. Here’s what you need to know about the different kinds of cleaning and disinfecting wipes and how to use them properly.

Cleaning wipes are designed to remove dirt, dust and grime from surfaces. They may also contain ingredients that help remove stains or odors. Cleaning wipes are good for general cleaning tasks, such as wiping down countertops, appliances, furniture or floors.

Disinfecting wipes are designed to kill germs, bacteria, and viruses on surfaces. They contain active ingredients registered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as effective against specific pathogens. Disinfecting wipes are good for high-touch areas, such as door handles, faucets, keyboards or phones.

There are many other kinds of wipes that are useful for different purposes. Baby wipes are helpful to have on hand at the diaper changing station. Hand wipes are helpful for cleaning and disinfecting hands when not near soap and water. Makeup removing wipes make face cleaning routines easier at the end of each night. Electronic wipes help keep devices clean and dust-free without damaging the electronics. Stain removal wipes can help keep stains from setting on clothes before they can be put in the laundry. And flushable wipes offer additional personal cleansing.

To use wipes correctly, you need to follow the label directions. Make sure to dispose of the used wipe appropriately and always dispose of any non-flushable wipes in the trash.
